Shirley Ross, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, friend and role model, passed away peacefully in Toronto, Ontario, on April 17, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on February 8, 1934, in Toronto, Shirley was a vibrant spirit whose life was a testament to love, resilience, and an unquenchable thirst for knowledge.
Shirley was the devoted wife of the late Tzvi Ross, with whom she shared a deep love that served as the foundation for their family. Her love knew no bounds, and she was always there to offer support, wisdom, and encouragement. Together, they created a nurturing home filled with laughter, warmth, and the occasional spirited debate. As a mother, she was a guiding light to her children, Cynthia (Billy) Rhonda, Lisa, and (David), instilling in them the values of kindness, hard work, and the importance of education.
As a grandmother, Shirley’s heart expanded even further. She cherished her grandchildren, Robin, Amanda (Myles), Dylan, Max (Ayleeta), Eli (Kieran), Joshua, (Katiya), Jesse (Charlotte).
Shirley’s great grandchildren Jackson, Isaiah, and Iyah brought her immense joy.
Shirley was not only a devoted family member but also a cherished sister to her brother Stanley and sister-in-law Nicole. She held a special bond with her brother-in-law Milton and sister-in-law Jackie, and her niece Deborah (Mike) and great-nieces Wenona and Beatrice were always close to her heart. Auntie Eileen Kruger, was like a sister to her and Naomi (Stan Makow), and children Danah (Jeff), Yael (Arie) and grandson Neve. Shirley’s family was her greatest treasure, and she took immense joy in their accomplishments and milestones.
One of Shirley’s devoted passions was attending Shul and as founding members of Beth Tikvah Synagogue, Shirley and Tzvi demonstrated their passion for Judaism throughout their lives. She was also a volunteer at Mount Sinai Hospital for 30 years.
Shirley was not just a family matriarch; she was a mentor to many, offering guidance and support to friends and acquaintances alike. Her wisdom and kindness left an indelible mark on the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
Our family extends a big thanks to Shirley’s caregiver and friend Hope, who made her life a joy. Thank you to all the staff at Mount Sinai Hospital, 12 South.
Shirley Ross leaves behind a legacy of love, learning, and laughter. Her spirit will forever resonate in the hearts of her family and friends, reminding us all to embrace life with passion and to cherish the moments we share. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered as a remarkable person who impacted the lives of so many.
