It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Oscar Coleman on Wednesday, November 19th, at the age of 91. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Jacob and Ethel Coleman.
Oscar was the beloved husband of Annette for 55 years, brother to the late Harry ‘Arkie’ and Linda, and a loving father to Josh, Elissa (Mark), and Randy (Elisa). Oscar was a devoted Zaidy to Marissa, Darcy (of blessed memory), Serena, Jakob, and Noah, all of whom brought him great joy. He was also a cherished uncle to his nieces and nephews, who held a special place in his heart.
Oscar was deeply proud of his East Coast Canadian roots and the values that shaped him growing up in Moncton. His strong Jewish identity remained a guiding force throughout his life, from childhood to later years. What started with attending shul with his father at Tiferes Israel Synagogue evolved into a lifelong dedication to Jewish community and tradition. Oscar stayed connected to the shul throughout his life and was especially proud to serve as its treasurer, a role he carried out with dedication and integrity.
A proud and lifelong volunteer, Oscar dedicated his time to numerous organizations, including the Moncton Organization for the Deaf and Scouts Canada. He was honoured for his outstanding commitment, leadership, and mentorship over 50 years with Scouts Canada—an achievement he cherished greatly.
Oscar also cherished the simple pleasures in life: sitting outside on his porch basking in the warmth of the sun, and going on drive-thru coffee adventures with Annette. These small moments brought him great joy and reflected his gratitude for life’s everyday blessings.
Oscar will be remembered for his warmth, kindness, and unwavering devotion to his family and community. His memory will forever be a blessing to everyone who knew and loved him.
